Sachin Tendulkar passes 15,000 Test runs

Tendulkar is searching for a record 100th international century
Sachin Tendulkar has become the first player in history to score 15,000 runs in Test match cricket.

The Indian batsman achieved the feat when he reached 28 not out on day three of the first Test against the West Indies in Delhi.

The 38-year-old is seeking a record 100th international century having been stuck on 99 tons since March.

Tendulkar ended the day unbeaten on 33 after being trapped lbw by Fidel Edwards for seven in the first innings.

The "Little Master" passed West Indies batsman Brian Lara's mark of 11,953 runs to become the leading Test run-scorer in 2008 and subsequently became the first cricketer in history to reach 12,000, 13,000, 14,000 and now 15,000 Test runs.

Ajantha Mendis of Sri Lanka number one T20 bowler

Oct 24, Dubai: The Reliance ICC T20I Player Rankings which were released in Dubai Monday has ranked Sri Lanka's mystery bowler Ajantha Mendis at the top, the International Cricket Council reported.

Sri Lanka was ranked at the second place just one point behind the number one ranked England with 127 points, the reigning ICC World Twenty20 champion.

Ajantha Mendis, who won the ICC Emerging Player of the Year award at the LG ICC Awards in Dubai in 2008, leads the field in the bowlers' category. His bowling figures of six for 16 against Australia in Pallekele on 8 August 2011 stands as the best bowling figures in T20Is to date.

According to the ICC the 26-year-old Mendis is the fourth leading wicket-taker behind Pakistan trio - Shahid Afridi (53), Umar Gul (47) and Saeed Ajmal (45) - with 39 wickets in 20 matches.

"I feel honoured and humbled to be ranked as the top bowler in a list which includes some of the finest current bowlers," he has said.

"While celebrating my number-one ranking, I cannot thank my team-mates enough for their continued support and guidance. If fact, our number-two position on the Championship table illustrates how well we have gelled as a team and consistently produced good performances," he added.

England's Eoin Morgan was named as the number-one ranked batsman and Shane Watson of Australia was the top all-rounder.

The ICC Reliance Ranking placed Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayewardena at the fourth place, Tillekaratna Dilshan at the 6th place and Kumar Sangakkara just behind Dilshna at 7th place in the batsmen category. Lasith Malinga was placed at the 10th place in the bowlers rankings.

Pakistan to take on Sri Lanka in UAE

Pakistan will play three back-to-back Tests against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah in the UAE from October 18, the PCB has announced.

The first three games of the subsequent one-day series in November will be played in Dubai while Sharjah will host the fourth ODI on November 20. The teams will move to Abu Dhabi for the final one-dayer and the only Twenty20 international to be played on November 25.

Pakistan have been forced to play their 'home' series on overseas territory since the terrorist attacks on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore in 2009 and have favoured UAE as their venue of choice.

"We had a choice of neutral venues but we opted for UAE because it allows us to manage things smoothly," Subhan Ahmad, the PCB chief operating officer, was quoted in the Dawn as saying.

The third Test of the series will mark the return of Test cricket to Sharjah which has hosted only two one-dayers between Afghanistan and Canada after being ignored as an international venue since 2003.

KARACHI: Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal was a surprised omission on Sunday as the national selectors unveiled a 15-man squad for the forthcoming Test series against Sri Lanka in the United Arab Emirates.

Umar, the youngest among the three Akmal brothers who had represented Pakistan in international cricket, has been axed for the first time from the Test squad as the selectors retained former national skipper Shoaib Malik and recalled Umar Gul, Wahab Riaz and Abdul Rehman after resting them for the recent tour of Zimbabwe.
