After winning the toss and deciding to bat against Sri Lanka, England lost two early wickets of Andrew Strauss and Ian Bell but Jonathan Trott and Eoin Morgan have gained control and steadied the match for England to post 229/6.
For Sri Lanka, Muralitharan who is retiring from cricket after this World Cup grabbed two wickets.
Sri Lanka's run chase can be hampered by the weather this afternoon. The Meteorology Department has forecasted thunder showers in the evening.
