Kensington Oval, Bridgetown Pitch Conditions/Pitch Report:
The good news, if we’re looking for it, is that the Kensington Oval pitch was not as hard during the recent World Twenty20 as it was when England toured a year ago. It was still pretty hard though, and offered good bounce and carry for the bowlers.
With the idea of another bore draw is a scary one, and so the hope must be that heavy rain leading up to the Test will have hampered the groundsman’s preparations so that there is at least some deterioration over the five days – something that didn’t happen last year.
From 1978 to 2004, just three teams batted first upon winning the toss in 24 Tests at the ground as bowlers looked to take advantage of helpful conditions early on, but that trend appears to be changing and whoever wins the toss on Saturday morning will almost certainly bat first.
Whether either side will be able to beat the pitch, the weather and the opposition and take 20 wickets remains to be seen, but it seems unlikely.
Bridgetown, Barbados Weather Forecast:
There’s been a lot of rain in Barbados recently, and the weather men predict more showers over the course of the Test match, with days one and five looking particularly worrying.
