Sri Lanka's state run Rupavahini Corporation won a battle with the newly formed Carlton Sports Network to win the rights to telecast the upcoming Sri Lanka - Australia cricket series.
The battle was hyped by media since the Carlton Sports Network is allegedly linked to political elite of Sri Lanka.
Rupavahini had to raise its bid to Rs. 22 million against its new competitor bid of Rs. 20.1 million.
Sri Lanka Cricket sources say the Rs. 22 million is the highest amount it has received by granting local TV rights to telecast international cricket matches in Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, state-owned Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation has won the rights for local radio broadcasting of the series.
