IND vs SL: Previous ODI contests
August 28, 2010: Triangular Series, Dambulla - Sri Lanka won by 74 runs
Their most recent meeting came in the final of a triangular series that also involved New Zealand. The hosts once again proved their batting prowess with ICC Cricket World Cup leading run-scorer Tillakaratne Dilshan striking a century in a total of 299 for eight. In reply, India crumbled to 225 all out. In the earlier matches, the teams had won a game apiece, with India taking the first by six wickets only to suffer an eight-wicket thrashing six days later.
June 24, 2010: Asia Cup, Dambulla - India won by 81 runs
Another final meeting in Dambulla but this time it was the visitors who triumphed after setting Sri Lanka a target of 269. For once, the hosts struggled with the bat - Praveen Kumar snaring Dilshan for a duck - and they were bowled out for 187.
March 23, 2007: World Cup, Port of Spain - Sri Lanka won by 69 runs
Their last World Cup meeting capped an unhappy tournament for India as they crashed out in the initial group stage. Having lost to Bangladesh, India needed a win against Sri Lanka to keep their hopes alive but they were comprehensively beaten. After Sri Lanka posted 254 for six from their 50 overs, India slumped to 185 all out, with Sachin Tendulkar and Mahendra Singh Dhoni both failing to score.
March 10, 2003: World Cup, Johannesburg - India won by 183 runs
A hugely one-sided Super Six contest set India on their way to the final, where they lost to Australia. Tendulkar fell three runs short of a century but India's total of 292 for six proved far too good for their opponents, who managed only 109 before being bowled out in the 23rd over. Four of their top five batsmen scored ducks.
March 13, 1996: World Cup, Kolkata - Sri Lanka were awarded victory
Sri Lanka's finest cricketing moment, their World Cup final win over Australia, was preceded by one of India's darker days. In front of an Eden Gardens crowd thought to be well over 100,000 strong, the visitors scored 251 for eight. By the 35th over of their reply, India had slumped to 120 for eight and the crowd showed their displeasure by throwing objects onto the field. A 20-minute break in play did not calm the atmosphere down and, with fires being lit in the stands, match referee Clive Lloyd awarded the victory to Sri Lanka. It was the first such result in either Test or one-day cricket.
