Sri Lanka Cricket said the national Cricket Selection Committee headed by former national captain Aravinda de Silva has handed in their resignation as national selectors to the Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage.
The Selection Committee including Ranjith Fernando, Amal Silva and S. Asgaerali, said that their term ends on April 30, 2011.
The Committee has said that they were 'enormously disappointed' at the loss of the coveted World Cup to India in a highly competitive final but happy that they have been able to meet most of their objectives in a short space of time.
The resigning selectors said the views of the cricketing public and media are most knowledgeable, and with every decision they had to make, those views were appreciated and taken by them in the right spirit.
Several media reports questioned the selectors' decision to drop bowler Ajantha Mendis and include Suraj Randiv in the World Cup final played against India on April 02, in Mumbai.
The Selection Committee was appointed on May 26, 2010 by then Sports Minister C.B. Ratnayake.
Sri Lanka cricket captain Kumar Sangakkara yesterday stepped down from the post of captain and vice captain Mahela Jayawardena also handed in his resignation from the post earlier today.
